One Year Later

A year and one day ago, a laser fixed my eyesight. Pretty weird, if you think about it.

366 days later, I have no regrets and haven't had any major issues. There was one time on July 4th when a specific type of fireworks was overwhelmingly bright and I had to close my eyes whenever I saw one shoot up, but most of the fireworks were fine, and there are no problems with my everyday activities (assuming we don't have a nuclear war any time soon).

In fact, before my surgery, I was having issues with dry eyes from wearing contacts and staring at a computer screen all day long. It was so bad that I was using eyedrops on a daily basis. After surgery, I no longer have daily dry eye issues, which is a huge relief.

Most of all, it's just amazing to me that I don't need contacts or glasses and can just wake up every day and use my very own eyeballs to play sports and drive and work and see my boyfriend's face when I wake up (instead of a tan and brown blur).

I'm surprised by the fact that sometimes I miss wearing glasses... But I don't miss the headaches and I definitely don't miss being dependent on it.

So, to wrap up, I'll say the same thing I said immediately following my surgery: I would definitely recommend PRK/LASIK and if I were to go back in time, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Here's to six working senses! 😎
